Stefan Sagmeister
The concept makes the image — even if the brief is carved into his own skin
Sagmeister made the concept the absolute engine of composition, all the way to controlled excess. He started at M&Co alongside Tibor Kalman, carrying on his idea of design as discourse.
With Jessica Walsh (Sagmeister & Walsh, 2011–2019), then solo since 2019, he refocused on research: the Beauty project — a Phaidon book and touring exhibition — is its culmination.
