Marian Bantjes
A calligraphic maximalism: illumination, baroque, Victoriana
Bantjes claims medieval illumination, Islamic calligraphy and baroque ornamentation as sources. Her work treats ornament not as dressing but as the very substance of meaning.
An AGI member and honorary doctor of Emily Carr University, she now runs the Design Art Gallery in Lunenburg.
