Irma Boom
"Queen of Books": the book as a radically experimental object
Over 300 books designed, a radical experimentation with physical format: Irma Boom treats every book as an object in its own right. Youngest-ever Gutenberg Prize laureate (2001), Johannes Vermeer Award (2014).
Her best-known pieces push constraint to the extreme: the 2,136-page SHV monograph with no index, the inkless Chanel N°5 book, the miniature UNESCO books. Clients: Rijksmuseum, Vitra, OMA/Rem Koolhaas, Chanel.
Key projects
- Monographie SHV (2 136 pages, sans index)
